Poetry Isn'T Always My Best Friend

Lately I’ve been
writing poetry again
but it isn’t always my best friend.

I have other responsibilities
you see
like cutting grass and trimming trees.

Its not that I don’t like
to write
words, like birds ascending high in flight

But I lose myself
upon a shelf
needing all the help

I can ascertain
to remove the pain
of other things

Left undone
because poetry makes me run
in circles around the sun

And my head aches
from all the time it takes
away from autumn leaves to rake.

Terrel, you have shared exactly my thoughts . When writing poems, we forget the worries.... as poetry is therapeutic. But It also makes us forget our responsibilities. I am sometimes pricked by a sense of guilty conscience that I am leaving out some important things I should have done! Poetry is so engrossing. A beautiful poem, dear friend....

Many of us can relate my friend. It almost more that I can handle sometimes. The chores and life and poetry. A handful forsure. I do lose myself when I'm writing and sharing and reading poetry as you do, Terry. I glad I found your poetry to follow. Bill

Nicely written, Terry, and I can relate. Other things seem to interfere sometimes from what I love to do and would rather be doing. In between mowing, however...

Nice to hear from you Milton and so glad you can relate as well. Sometimes I feel like I'm being sucked into this giant black hole called poetry and I can't back out of it. Thanks for your understanding and best of all - your response. Write on, Terry

Thanks so much for your thoughts on the matter Deb. I'm glad I'm not alone in this feeling - or these writing endeavors. Cheerios, Terry
