Poetry For the Poisoned

You peer at me with sorrow in your eyes But between us is a wall made of lies A poisoned soul that was once ravishing This may be the greatest travesty There's no cure for a broken heart Overtime you simply adopt the pain Romance isn't a fairy tale It's the hardest work in the world So what am I to do with these tears Knowing I've done nothing wrong Together we built a cathedral Over the bones of a mud hut In seconds it was ripped apart Existing now as a pile of rubble And still you peer at me with sorrow in your eyes But this wall between us will never fall again
