Poetless In Milwaukee
Milwaukee the City of Festivals
A festival for every season
Known for beer and cheeses
Cheese curds squeak as beer foams.
Old architecture are reborn
Modernized for this era
Museums within and near the lake
To arts and performances
In theaters across the city.
Yet with what Milwaukee has
There seems to be something missing
Where are the mystical words
That reside this urban jungle?
Where are the poets
That breath life into poems?
Where are meetups and events
For writers to share thoughts
To hear a poet's inspiration?
I can't seem to find
Even a poetry reading
Not even for the afternoon
Exclusive to the night
As a nocturnal bat taking flight.
Is there no love
For a literary art?
That goes unappreciated
In this little metropolis?
Why must poetry be a bug
To be brushed under the rug
As the other arts get glory
Why must poetry go unloved?
Let us bring awareness
To poetry for Milwaukee
Bring more events to honor
The literary art during April
Its most treasured holiday month
Dedicated to the beauty of poetry.
Dedicate a festival for literature
Poets across the country to come
To share their wisdom and art
Inspire new poets with its beauty.
It's time poetry deserved the spotlight
Rise like a phoenix from the ashes
To fly across the majestic sky
Above the City of Festivals
Fly sweet poetic phoenix
Let your presence be known.
