Poetics Poem, Dear Aristotle

Poetics Poem 5

********(Mimesis)******

Dear Aristotle, where, then,
Do the Arts fit?
You say each of them
Falls to mimesis, but their works, to me,
Erupt into present moments
Wearing immediate faces - not masks -
Speaking their own lyrics
Without consideration of what came
Before or will come afterwards,
Presenting a stage for dialogue...
Opening platforms for exchange.
The artworks begin anew each time
The audience receives impressions
Or as the works are relived repeatedly,
They may bring new strokes, viewed as
Potentially new and not, as you say,
“Imitations of imitations.”
Inspiration feeds the audience
As well as the artists, and all
Of time moves to
Impress upon the exchanges.

ars longa; vita brevis -- or maybe today it's the reverse. Hard to tell anymore, life's gotten so bizarre! Enjoyed your muse, Sally! Light and Illumination, Gershon

Stan! Thanks for stopping to read & comment! Assuming I now know a small bit abt yr play with words, I can take yr comment 2 ways, depending on if that hyphen were planned? Intriguing both ways tho. I felt rather audacious striking out at Aristotle in 1st place haha guts. Would take 500 word blog to really explain myself, but my poetics DOES disagree firmly with mimesis. Take care!

interesting...the arts I believe do imitate life and are a way of processing it so that it is indeed mimesis :)

Makings of long fun conversation; my push to write this...Agree representational art is imitation, so too realism, but what of others? Or U could say God,having created everything, leaves 4 nothing new & ALL thus becomes mimesis. Not what I believe, not my poetics’ views. Love discussing these ideas. Good to C U, Susan!
