Poems Past

I go through poems past with longing heart The words revive my heart though far apart from poets who have crossed through veil of death. Unknown to them, their love still gives me breath I read and wonder where my friends have gone Their poems still remain, but what went wrong? Why are they silent, why did friendship die? I write to them and ask the question why I feel again the love between the lines The little tell tale clues, the little signs That speak of hidden romance soon to bloom, yet withered are the words now, filled with gloom So much has changed, so much remains the same Some words are laced with laughter, some with pain, and though nostalgia offers me a kiss, I know that there are those I'll always miss But you are here, a constant in my life We've been through times of joy and times of strife Your presence lingers still and soothes my soul The poems that you write? They make me whole. Eileen Manassian Ghali

I sometimes wonder what the last poem I will write will be. My hope is that it will be a good one. If I am never to write another poem, I am thankful for all the thoughts that have passed through me to the page. This poem is though provoking.

Hope that day never comes... you're a constant here for me. We go way way back. I would hate it if you leave. I guess we all will at some point, but let's enjoy it while we can

I so appreciate your openness about the comings and goings here, on Poetry Soup, Eileen. Life has been hectic, sometimes we're on a treadmill, sometimes just treading water... Just can't stop writing poetry... And yes, it's not easy building solid support, giving or taking. So I know I am guilty of going awol at times. And I enjoy being here, despite the tension that comes up now and again. It's comforting that you are back here writing, it's inspiring to see you posting, Lovely Lady! ((Hugs))

I have been away for a time myself, but I always come back. Summe if my dearest friends are here and though I'm friends with them on Facebook... it's not the same. I don't particularly enjoy reading poetry on Facebook. It's not the place... that's why I come back here. Thanks for dropping by... it means a lot. Hugs

I can see from the comments below that many can relate. I especially miss Becca. Her poem "I am Poetry" was a classic for the ages. And her narration? Superb. I've asked her to come back but she sees the hate poems still being written about fellow poets so who knows. Tis sad, tis sad. Meantime, some awesome poets remain

You're here long enough to know why. Like I said... there's room enough for everyone here. You don't have to read and comment if you don't like a certain poet. Live and let live..

I know you and Becca didn't hit it off too well but you're both gifted poets. I've managed to bury the hatchet with most, but not all

It's only normal that some poets will get on better with some than others. This is a microcosm of the real world. I don't think snide remarks will ever not be a part of this place. I'm sure you can remember that I've had my fair share of critics. I've been bullied. However, I stood my ground and I'm still here. Becca should do the same. She is a very gifted poet. That's for sure.

I can relate big time Eileen especially for Darren Watson who was so influential in my early days on soup - I wonder what happened to him, I have no contact any more with him or his sister - even wrote to her to let her know about the book - sad times my friend but i am so glad YOu are still here:-) hugs jan xx

I feel the same about you, Jan. I'm glad you've held on despite some of the unfortunate happenings here. I'm sorry you've lost touch with Darren. You guys were a power couple in poetry. I tried writing to some who are no longer here and didn't get a response. Some wrote back. We take it as it comes. Big hugs

We've been here long enough to have loss. But some lose their muses only to get them back and return. I mis the best poet, Elizabeth Wesley. She like some of us care about our audience. and kept poetry poetry.

I hear you. It's hard to take when those you relate to go MIA. I miss the good old days... the first couple of years after I joined. Seems a lifetime ago. I haven't read her work, but I'm sure she must be good if you think so highly of her. Hope all is well with you.

I agree with what you wrote here, Eileen. I've been on Soup for over ten years and I have come across many poets who attracted my attention for various reasons. Eventually some vanish into thin air; others are still here; others passed away. I am fortunate to have bonded with some who have left an imprint on my life, and some who I was so lucky to meet in person. I confirm that real friendship is possible to forge online!! ~ warm regards & hugs my friend // paul

Amen to that. Thank you for being one of those very special poet friends whom I've met in person. You are an amazing person, Paul. Thank you for still being here.

I understand your poem well. So many writers just go away for no valid reason. I personally forgive them. Hugs.

Life gets hectic... complicated... overwhelming. I understand. I was away for a while, but I'm always drawn back. Thank you for being a part of PS. I always enjoy visiting your work. Next time I'm in Malta... let's meet.

I can really relate to this one. There are poets here that used to practically be my best friends. A few passed away and others faded away even though I see them commenting around to others. I really cherish close bonds so I am saddened to see them disappear.. I don't know if this poem finished by addressing all of Soup or one person in general. Regardless, you are a beautiful person

I'm glad you have those with whom you share a special bond. People tell me cyber friends aren't real... when it comes to poet friends, that doesn't apply. They know us better than our REAL friends. I treasure your visits as well.

Thanks for the visit, dear. Lately I've been going through my poems from some from years ago. I've actually soup mailed some people who haven't been around, no response from one. I'm glad Drake is still around. Some have passed on. So sad. The last part is for the select few who are in touch with me always. They check when I'm away. Few will do that. Big hugs
