Poem Comments

I recently started writing poems
Something totally new to me
I even joined some poetry sites
Entered contests that were free

Not knowing when I joined the sites
And posted my poems on there
Members could give them a read
That thought gave me a scare

Then I read the comments on my poems
Became fascinated by what they say
Mostly encouraging with so much support
A sincere one would make my day

On the other hand, a canned response
Is something that just makes me sad
If you don’t actually read the poem
Giving comments is totally bad

The personal ones are what I seek
The ones that relate to my write
I wish the phonies would just go away
To do what they do isn’t right

The sincere ones that I receive
Help keep me composing each day
I want to thank my fellow poets
These comments are my only pay

Yet sometimes people think their words, So sugar-coated sweet, Will be just the thing to lift us up Or make our day complete. It doesn't work. Both you and I And surely others, too, Know that spotting phony comments Doesn't take a high I.Q. Keep writing and keep posting Though it will not make you rich; And enjoy the honest comments - I guess you'll know which is which. If you've only recently started writing I will be very interested to see what you write once seasoned, this was truthful but still I enjoyed reading it and the flow was good it kept me going from one stanza to the next....
