Pine Cone
The pine cone sits and rests,
features and expression indelible.
At a season of tricky tests,
its prickly scales are incredible,
open and close, fully flexible.
Life-giving rain makes it fold.
outer scales extend, then close.
Until drying winds, it will hold.
Then sweet release! Its pose
is fully spread, brash and bold!
Its seeds release into the winds
and travel to faraway places.
With a sardonic chuckle, it grins
at the small challenges it faces.
To proliferate, it weather-paces!
