Phantom Phone Call

Phantom Phone Call All Hallows Eve quickly approaches With tales of crypts and ghostly coaches When haunting spirits again roam To sounds of chains and dirges of moans. Amid this eerie spine-chilling time Beloved mother prepares to die Fragile link between Heaven and earth Suddenly splits in her rebirth. One final breath, one final sigh, One final smile from her blue eyes Now at midnight her spirit takes flight Traveling light through darkest midnight. The battle over – sweet warrior at rest Home phone rings jarring mourning expressed Familiar voice heard on the line – no trick - “Child, this is your mother!” Click… 10-8-21 Contest: Something Spooky 8-16 lines Poem Sponsor: Tania Kitchin The story is true story although timeframe has been altered. After mom died our home phone rang. It was past midnight. The voice on the other end of the line was mom’s voice. The call untraceable. Rhymes checked with RhymeZone

Janice many thanks and much gratitude for your message. This was truly a deeply mystical experience and totally without explanation. I have often said that we who believe will experience things we can never explain and the world will never understand. God at work! Sending you all the blessings of this wonderful season!

Heya Sam, first may I say your poem has a magic spooky quality, which threads it's way though every stanza, then I see your footnote, which again enhances the eeriness, do I believe it happened, absolutely, do I understand, absolutely not, which pretty much sums up my everyday puzzlement of the human condition, cheers David

Thank you so much David. I am with you on this one - I believe but I can't explain. It does leave me, like you, with so many questions about things seen and unseen and the collision between them. That phone call still leaves us pondering in spine tingling wonder! This contest gave me the opportunity to share this experience and gain an extra special sense of peace and resolution! All the best! Cheers!

Thank you Andrea! It is an unsolvable mystery that somehow brought both shivers and a sense of peace. I will never forget getting that call. Spooky and miraculous all at the same time! I think mom just wanted us to know she was okay and we were going to be okay! All the best!

Your story gave me shivers, all the more because it is true - also like your line 'traveling light through darkest midnight' - I hope your mother is at peace now.

I still get the "tinglies" when I remember that night. So sad to lose her but getting that call reinforced that she was okay. She brought much light into this world and I could just see her streaking through the night into the loving arms of the eternal's eternity. So glad you enjoyed this write. Thank you for your visit my friend! Blessings of light to you!

Quite a spooky tale Sam, but I believe there is another side to our existence, I think she was letting you know she was OK. Over Fork Over. Enjoy your weekend Tom

Sam, quite interesting. Last Sunday, a good friend of mine passed away at 3:40pm. At that time, I received a call on my cellphone from him...one ring with his name coming up, but no response when I answered. Explain? The only thing I can figure is that they were turning off his cell phone and accidentally called me, but why?

Oh this is scary, but beautiful too. I read your last line, your mom called?! Gosh, that is amazing. I had a dream after my mama passed. The caller id was from her house, and in the dream when I answered, it was my mom. She went on to talk to me for awhile. My sister had a dream she called her the same night. Those were just amazing dreams! What a blessed event, to have a real phone call from heaven. I wish I could talk to my mom on the phone. I miss her so much. Great poem Sam <3
