Pets At Christmas

Parents impulsively will buy their kids a Christmas pet
Not knowing it will often be a gift they will regret
Christmas day their kids are so excited it’s all new
But the work involved, no one really has a clue

Pets become a chore and are ignored and neglected
It’s a shame it is not planned out, and prevented
Animal shelters often become full after the holidays
Parents get frustrated and decide to send their pets away

Pet adoptions should be banned during the holiday season
The adoptions should be planned for all the right reasons
If parents feel a need to buy their kids a Christmas pet gift
I hope they settle with just buying a decent colorful fish

What I really hate is how some parents buy bunnies or chicks at EAster time, and sometimes those animals have been dyed. Kids do not usually keep up responsibilities with bunnies, ducks or chicks!! Kim Rodrigues December 21, 2018 at 12:44 PM Parents do many things — the responsibility, they want their children to shoulder when they are not ready. They make them feel guilty. So if a parent gets a pet, they should be ready to love the furbaby. I’ve seen parents of younger children make their kids pay a fine at the library, which sounds good but really? I hate to think so many of these pets are returned to animal shelters where their futures are in questions. People make a commitment when they adopt pets and the animals so freely commit their love to new owners, only to be abandoned. Very touching, Tania. Best wishes in Dear Heart's contest!
