Pete and Becky Sue

Pete was a hard worker and never asked anyone for any thing,
and lived in Harpers Meadow down near the spring.
Sundays you could always find Pete with a fishing pole in his hand,
stocking up on catfish from the banks near his land.

Pretty much a loner though he was a likable soul,
his little cabin was well built, mostly from large cedar poles.
Deer, turkey, and a few bear, kept him in meat when the nights were cold.
While the hides kept him warm and provided a few coins from those that he sold.

Just over the mountain lived lovely Becky Sue,
and every boy in the valley was chasing after you know who.
Becky had done set her eye on Pete although he did not know,
and she did her level best to try to be where Pete would go.

Then came the day Pete noticed this lovely lass,
and knew she was the one for this feeling would not pass.
And what then was the custom, Pete spoke to Becky's paw,
I'm seeking Becky Sue's hand according to our law.

Paw knew Pete's worth and said you are an honorable man,
Pete promised to always take care of her, said I'll promise to do the best I can.
They loaded up the wagon and headed in to town,
Becky sue looked so lovely in her flour sack wedding gown.

They found the old preacher and he pronounced them man and wife,
and blessed the two so they would have a happy life.
Pete was no longer a loner with Becky Sue now by his side,
and soon their little cabin would be a home as the family grew in stride.

Just goes to show you don't need money or material things to find love. I enjoyed reading this story and laughed when I rad Becky Sue had married in a "flour sack." With the beauty you described, she probably was stunning anyway. (Be the way, I checked the "maps" link and it worked for me again.) Really enoyed this tale; quite uplifting with a good reinforcement of traditional values. Love, Carolyn

This would make for a good country song, put it to music and it would be a hit! Sweet story!!
