Pernicious Pols

Drivel and
snivel or
swivel the words
to trivialize
the lies
and semantic games
played in the names
of citizens like ... Joe.

Pronounce
to pounce
and renounce
an opponent
in a smear word war waged
beneath our collective contempt.

Like the proverbial
snake with the pernicious
forked tongue,
they speak
to squeak
in rhymes of rot
caring not
for the confusion
delusion
of hopes lying shattered
in the booth.

Go ahead and vote
but don't gloat,
for the bloat
and secrecy
will always be.

Hey Sue, I'm no liberal, but McCain's opponent makes sense while he's still busy name calling. So I'll vote for inexperience over 26 years of Washington corruption. What next! Me voting for a liberal. don"t believe your vote is secret. How do you think they get the statistics. They only tell you it's secret. Vince

Excellent Sue. I've never hated politics more than I do now, and I hate seeing our country so bitterly divided. With that said, your poetry rocks. Love, Shar

Powerful words...This write is so strong because you took a current topic and made it very poetic. The metaphors are strong and delivers the poem in a strong, effective way.
