Notes About The Poem

PERFECT INVERSION

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
over the cliff's edge, two arcs bridged the sky~ violet-to-green, to gold-to-blue, arching like forgotten promises~ one bow echoed the other in perfect inversion, earth-bound light bent through grief to glimpse heaven twice.
This nails it, for me anyway -- always keeping in mind that the rainbow is the sign of God's promise not to ever destroy the earth again -- because the nature of man is evil from his birth: A hard reckoning, that... (Believing Jews do not look at rainbows -- and yet say a blessing over them if they inadvertently see one). ~ gw
