Listen to poem:

Penny Dreadful

Pure girl, the fallen angel does possess
Envelops her, unwanted legacy
No way out, fighting fate is her life's test
Night’s blackest suitors are her destiny
Youth’s betrayed friend, to rescue she risks all

Dark paranormal quest, what will they find?
Redemption or damnation may befall
Endgangered soul is tortured by her mind
A lone bud may emerge in deadly bloom
Down, can she be saved by her fate’s true love?
Foul evil’s power may the world entomb
Unclean beings roil beneath, God soars above
Lost world winds to its dark and baleful end
--Last fateful choice in strong arms of a friend

Great, Tom. I see you are a fan. What did you think of the conclusion? I felt it was a good ending -- they couldn't take the characters any further without infringing on their respective classic stories (although, John Clare was not Dr. Frankenstein's first creation).... ;-)

I admit I never have watched it. I do get Showtime so I will look for it....love the poem...I'm sure I will get some more of the nuances after I watch.

It's a pretty good one if you're into horror/supernatural, and even if you aren't--very well done. Not for young kids in many ways. Hope you like!

Thomas, I would love to chat with someone about this show. I watched the very first episode a long time ago and did not get thrilled but since then my nephew has told me how wonderful the show is. if I can get a good deal on that movie channel in the future , I may just try to binge on this one. I bet I will like it after all. I have so many fave shows and I think your contest idea is awesome. Hope any kind of rhyme scheme at all suffices!!

It's an exceptionally well done and intelligent show, even for those of us who remember when that was a little more the norm... Supernatural, Heaven and Hell stuff. Definitely on the darker side, but well written and acted. Probably the cheapest way to go would be getting Showtime, bingeing, then cancelling. I think it's $8.99/mo. I got a free week via Amazon too.
