Pen Or Computer

A blank page or a blank word document
Which excites me more?
it is a toss-up.
Both exciting, pristine, pure, waiting.
I pick up a pencil and begin
But then I realize I cannot read my writing
so I fire up the computer.
It has trouble catching up with my typing hands
I laugh, on a tear now.
Until I look down and see the unhappy pen

Remembering how she used to delight me
I give her a love tap
Still she sits staring.
So I put her into the desk drawer
But it seems cold
So I wrap a Kleenex around her
and I apologize.
It is the least I can do.
The computer laughs,
Feeling all smug and powerful.
I despise her arrogance, and yet,

This was so playful! I too prefer writing to typing but alas my writing is so bad I can't read a thing not remember what I wrote so I type too!;)

I know how you feel Caren, I used to write and enjoy writing with my pen, but as the years go on my writing is deteriorating, as with everything else, haha... and of course it is so much easier to delete on the computer, rather than lots of crossing out. I still have a couple of good friends who send me beautifully handwritten letters, which I love to receive and keep in a drawer in my desk. Loved your poem Caren, especially the last two lines. With kindest thoughts Ann xx

I'll take my computor over the pen (or pencil) any day! Though my penmanship has always been above average, writing is tedious, typing much less so. Then, too, I can form my lines as I see fit and corrections are replaced in a jiffy, leaving clean copy. Besides, transcribing butchered handwritten copy can be a pain if you can't read your scribblings. I enjoyed this poem, Karen. / M

IT is our future...but the pen remains the instrument we can use to communicate...

The pen is ever so mighty! And it is terrific to see the thoughts of others.

Oh Caren. I see you've moved your dendrites from one site to another. Your sentimental thoughts about abandoning your pen are charming. You should write a poem about her, and of course use her to do so. That should make her happy and ease your guilt.
