Pebbles On a Barren Beach

Beneath the land of frothy cloud and azure sky Earthlings of the most diverse kinds still enthrall Like summer winds from breezes to monsoons And all their stony statures like statues stand erect To remind us humans we are so loathe to change Like granite stones having formed into planets Except fewer still that burned in vast eons past Far above the land of frothy cloud and azure sky ‘Tis well to remember how moves the roaring tide Shore-to-shore casting pebbles on a barren beach Written July 20, 2022 [another experiment in stream of consciousness]

I love reading "stream of consciousness" and always enjoy when my thoughts flow onto the page, especially if I can find meaning in them. I thought this one was particularly interesting.

You see, I did call something to your mind with this poem. It's certain stream of consciousness, and I think each person has to find here what they wish to find or what relates to them.

What exactly is 'stream consciousness?' Do you simply write the thoughts that are flowing through your mind at that moment? Your last two lines are killer.

Pretty much, Jenna. There is a certain rhythm that I try to achieve writing in Blank Verse. I start with an idea and I let the mind go where it will and, surprisingly, some rather nice images and phrases come to the fore. Give it a try!
