Notes About The Poem

Pearl of the Orient

Pearl of the Orient
“Farewell, my adored Land, region of the sun caressed,
Pearl of the Orient Sea, our Eden lost,
With gladness I give you my life, sad and repressed;
And were it more brilliant, more fresh and at its best,
I would still give it to you for your welfare at most.”
                                          From the poem by Jose Rizal”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Philippines is fondly called the Pearl of the Orient Sea.
The natural beauty of this island paradise is rich in biodiversity.
A pearl is created without the interference of humans, so finely.
Just as this island wonderland was created so divinely.
This archipelagic state has more than seven thousand islands.
Eleven major islands endowed with beauty from plains to highlands.
An amazing place to visit as a holiday destination for hospitality.
Filipinos are known for industrious attitude, humor and positivity.
Most Filipino foods may not be as spicy as some country’s dishes.
Filipino food will tantalize your taste buds and surpass your wishes.
Their national bird is the noble eagle, and of course their gem is the pearl.
The generosity and friendliness of its people allow its wonders to unfurl.
Glad you liked it Beata. I sent it to some of my friends after I had written it and like you did, they said it made them even more proud of their original homeland to read it. Thank you for your comment. Wen
Thanks Shane. When my kids were growing up there was quite a lot of Filipino born Aussies living in our suburb, so many of their friends families are from the Philippines. My sons and daughter have all been there for weddings and special celebrations, but I haven't been ( just know a lot about it from them and their mates.) Thank you for your comment.
This is a beautiful tribute both to the island and its people dear Wen. I love poems that are both entertaining and informative as yours is. Wonderful flow and rhyme as always from your gifted pen. I love the last line especially. Working in a healthcare environment gives me the pleasure of making friends with many Filipino’s and I know they would love to hear this poem and appreciate it as I have. Thank you for sharing this thoughtful poem dear friend xx
Yes we have many friends whose families hail from the Philippines. Can only speak highly of their generous nature ( not that I like to put labels on folk, but as we all are, pride of one's roots is admirable. Thanks for your lovely comment Chris. You bring sunshine to my page. Luv Wen.
