Peace Be With You

“Peace be with you,” the pastor then said, As he raised up on high the wafer of bread, That came from the baker who lived in the town, Who had gotten the wheat that the farmer had ground. He said to remember the sacrifice made, By the man they called Jesus that dark, fateful day, Who had traded his life to forgive them their debts, And had washed off the sin and the blood of the past Then the faithful all nodded said the Lord’s prayer, As they exited Church to breathe in the fresh air – To enjoy God’s creation around them that day, From the trees to the birds, to the smell of fresh hay But as soon as they entered their homes, something changed, For God's peace within them was buried away, As they sat ‘round the table and dined with their knives, On creatures that peacefully pled for their lives.
