Patriotic Fanaticism
Perhaps,
it is in the most
unlikely hours and places
such as the so temporary
quieting down of the guns,
the stench of blood, of death,
the agony of the wounded, the dying,
and the final silence of the slain
in this blood-soaked
battlefield
that you may see
a night rainbow descend
to pay homage to the sullied soil,
and it shall belatedly dawn on you
that, after all, so much of what
is hazy, stupid or hidden
about peace, about war,
about patriotic fanaticism
is, as you lay there dying,
just absurd !
