Ocean girdled nation had prospect for absolute containment
Overseas observers, in distant comfort, complacent
Wuhan origin arrivals sparked a catastrophic failure
Leaving lock down 25th January, flying into Australia
Similar instances followed, action came agonisingly belated
Contamination suppression echoes with mismanaged lament
Millions of innocent impeded by heartache of the unknown
Strength of their immunity's competence
Covid's undercover incessant vehemence
Attacked in usual activity, people crippled by lungs hollow
Airports permitting travel depicted supreme ignorance
Copious international passengers boarding craft untested
Devilish virus breathes via ducted vents
Spread of inconspicuous sickness immense
Coughed on contacts in next continent unwittingly ingested
Glamourous adored floating resorts initially escaped criticism
Statuesque ducks below deck brewed rampant cases of infection
Festering disease flipped between cabins
Tourists fine dined, ten days of celebration
New companions, ill-informed served virus a vast selection
China's claim of virus being under control wasn't legitimate
Poker faced amidst the shame, truth held to high ransome
Disgarded bodies on doorsteps ruthlessly collected
Figures of mounting mortalities fiercely protected
Concern of outspoken doctors hushed by ranks of rancid
Global defense administered with low regard, late compensation
Transparent eventually, Wuhan imposed mass retrenchment
Six weeks after frenetic city stomped on virus span
Other governments grudgingly began enforcing bans
Travel flow stayed open, tragically shifting disease epicentres
Forced facility closures display achingly clear symptoms
Separation shakes, failing business torments our structure
Living with smothered income, quarantined
Due to Leader's refusals, radars unseeing
Ability to have stemmed transmission where borders juncture
Forbearing residents abided by imposed restrictions
Limitations on their lifestyles percieved as small sacrifice
Obtainable in opening of unfamiliar tunnel's light
2020's freshness climbs to unchartered heights
Sprawling opportunities, Corona momentarily denied us
Respirators finally resigned to unresponsive dereliction
Gradually manic behaviours, gloves, mask wearing subsided
Fellow dwellers pass arm to arm unperturbed
Intrinsic psyche of surrounding sanctity returns
Tweaked traditions transition a discerning society united
