Pardon Not Granted

The slight was unintentional,
it was not in my heart to hurt her,
but she has not forgiven me.
I have personally apologized and
I have sent a written note.
She has met all of my overtures
with stony silence.
Her defensive wall is unbreachable but
I shall keep trying.
I have learned to guard my tongue.
Words can cause wounds that
may take a lifetime to heal.
Perhaps, just perhaps,
some day she will forgive me.
I pray it happens,
as much for her sake as for mine.

Excellent writing on our attempts to seek forgiveness and the patience required to wait for a response for an apology. Very good, Joyce. Congratulations on your winning position in the contest. It is most deserved with this fine entry. Deb

I don't know if this is based on personal experience, Joyce, but it WOULD be in her best interests to accept an apology. Otherwise those wounds will never heal. Very touching poem and it should do well in the contest. Always wishing you success, dear friend. Love, Carolyn
