Pardon Not Granted
The slight was unintentional,
it was not in my heart to hurt her,
but she has not forgiven me.
I have personally apologized and
I have sent a written note.
She has met all of my overtures
with stony silence.
Her defensive wall is unbreachable but
I shall keep trying.
I have learned to guard my tongue.
Words can cause wounds that
may take a lifetime to heal.
Perhaps, just perhaps,
some day she will forgive me.
I pray it happens,
as much for her sake as for mine.
