Painful Eyes

Abject truth
Heartfelt feelings
Not fully hidden
Painful eyes

Glancing away quickly
For fear others will see
Imagining compassion
Not always there

Painful eyes
Damage from years back
Not realizing 
We all are damaged

Every one of us
