Pain
I don’t like to focus on pain,
wanting to remain positive--
believing “rising tides lift, etc….”
but sometimes pain
will not listen to the host,
receptors closed
to meditation
and prayer;
an open question to me
as to whether we propagate
unconsciously, or flagrant defile
by independent demons--
though I think
even the latter, somehow
do not rule over
the gods of our own
being;
the worse pains
those we seem to only
track,
not a crumb leading
to their source
a witch at the door
not even sweets
before the oven--
And when
incantations fail,
cannot separate body
from soul,
rejecting ferments
for the suicide
of pharmacology
somehow makes
guiltless gold
the letters on
our stones….
