Thank you for your kind words,
But taking pity on a tortured soul
Only adds insult to injury.

A bandage on a wound that will never heal.

Never mind the old played-out phrases, the pretense.

Right here and right now.
You're not here.

I can't even imagine asking you to walk with me.

I am a lonely warrior,
fighting battles that are not my own.

Shattered desolation is the best that I can hope for.
You breathed life into these bones,
But was it wasted breath?

I am longing for that which will restore me.

Grounding that is true
in the earth
the cosmos
in each breath I take.

Walk away.
