Overshadowed

I know I can be wrong
But inside I know I’m right…Overshadowed

Light and hope my faithful friends
Darkness and cruelty all around me…Overshadowed

Brief moments of freedom keep my peace
Yet I am a slave to my decisions…Overshadowed

My strongest source of light my weakest point
My strength and honor my destruction…Overshadowed

The once warm, gentle touch of my lover
Has turned to cold lust that invades me
Like the death of our intimacy…
And I am Overshadowed

Even the sun in the sky is Overshadowed
By the clouds hanging over my head

And if it is true…
That even in the dark, you can still see the light
Then it must also be true…
That even in the light, you can still feel the dark…
As if my shadow, one step behind
Ever waiting to creep back in and steal my integrity…

And I am Overshadowed

A great piece of strength and resilience Chris. I can feel the conflicting emotions, each pulling, trying to win out over the other. You outdid yourself with this one, the repetitive lines really highlight the anguish and inner fight. Truly amazing writing, you are wonderful to read:)

Wow, thanks Lynn :) I'm always happy to see your warm and encouraging words here...not every write is a great one, but I do agree this is definitely one of my better writes. Amazing how the best writing can come from the most intense emotions...good or bad. This is a write from a few years back...the light always wins over the shadow :) have great day :) C.H.

Wow, thanks for your high praise! That means a lot coming from YOU! :)...isn't every woman allowed a day to be "Overshadowed"...and underappreciated haha! :) C.H.

This reminds me of serving two masters simultaneously. Sometimes one gets the upper hand, but are unable to live without each other. I am touched by the conflicting emotions of the 5th stanza. Regards // paul

Thanks for reading Silent, I value your wisdom. I try not to be...this is a write from a few years back. Working with horses (and their people) as I do though, I have seen too many things that well shall we say. would make most people feel... Overshadowed
