Overdrive

How pedestrian of you
not to think
outside your box

I understand
sketchy neighbourhood
being too afraid to stop

I don't mean to be insulting

pedestrian has more meanings
but not one of them
speed bump

and as you rock it
in your three ton
cozy bassinet

mind two wheels
despite your vigor is not
a speed impediment

and don't believe
that that last text
is truly a matter of life and death

I'd rather be late in this life
than early for the next.

Ah thank you so much Gershon! There's a lot of visceral venom in this piece, still recovering from years of being on the receiving end of road rage and otherwise um, inconsiderate "sharers" of the road. Was a bike courier for 20yrs, obeyed traffic laws... complimented by cops, accosted by drivers, J-walkers...

uniquely eloquent take on the them Maureen. With both drivers and pedestrians mesmerized by the blue light of their phones.....its a wonder anyone gets anywhere

It's an epidemic! The police been getting creative here, dressing up as bums holding cardboard signs telling drivers they are cops hunting drivers on their phones, others on public transpo looking down into cars issuing tickets. Doesn't seem to deter.

What if you had a pedestrian crossing? Lol.

Heh, means little to drivers in my town. Though gotta say, drivers being more courteous since a pedestrian was run over and killed crossing at a crosswalk a block from my home last week. Not a busy street either, residential four way stop.
