Notes About The Poem

Outcast

My Worst Enemy Is…

the silent killer, guilt that says
you’re unworthy of forgiveness, it is…

beyond me, why I can’t let go of the past
the haunting of a nightmare, so overcast

by the darkness, the wounds of my sins
what I once did so impulsively always wins

it is those past sins that tell me life is futile
a heart without a prayer, sin can be so brutal

this silent killer, the guilt that weighs me down
tells me I am useless, undeserving of a crown

but, Jesus still offers me a hope despite my crimes
He says that I’m His child, a child who uses rhymes

to tell of all His blessings, so despite the years now gone
I’m more valuable to Him, not just the devil’s pawn

this silent killer, the blame that I hold so dear
it is beyond my grieving and even though I shed a tear…

there is One who holds me when my tears do fall
He reminds me that I’m loved, and I still hear Him call

He calls me when I’m fretting, calls me when I doubt
when the sins I remember cause me to feel left out

He tells me I’m His child and His blessings keep exalting
so when all is said and done, it’s only the devil who keeps faulting

the sin that leaves me feeling like I deserve the worst
is written down by misery because the devil says I’m cursed

but I know a Savior who forgives my sin and heals all shame
with Him beside me I find peace and I’m so glad He came

Yes, I’m so glad Jesus came to this earth to save us all
when I feel like the worst sinner and I yearn to hear His call…

I listen with my spirit to the sound of love and grace
knowing that He’s the promise nothing can replace

I’m not saved because I’m worthy, or because I’m good
I’m saved because Jesus died, arose and I understood…

with Him as my Savior, all I need to do is pray and repent
these words are my thanksgiving to the One who God sent

He is the One who gave me a chance to find redemption
and when I feel Him with me, I know He’s given my soul exemption

Jesus is the reason that I believe I’m forgiven from my past
I didn’t have to earn His love – Thanks to Him, I’m not an outcast!
