Out of Treats

If you ran out of candy on Halloween night In those days back when I was a kid, You’d toss in some pennies, a nickel or dime And the kids would be glad that you did. But today, I suspect, even upping the coins Wouldn’t work for those used to much more So I guess if the candy supply peters out, Those at home just don’t open the door. For the “trick” if no “treats” once was harmless and tame, Like the dusting of chalk from a sock, But in this day and age any trickster might be Worth avoiding if you’re out of stock.

This was fun to read and think back on the past days of Halloween. It wasn't a good thing to run out of candy but indeed the pranks were harmless and all in good fun.

My memories of Halloween are pretty good. The only part i didn't like was my parents eating my candy. Lol No tricks here, I'll loose the dogs on them:) Loved you poem, Mrs Ilene. It brought back a lot of memories.

So true Ilene. No lights means no candy so they go on to the next house! I enjoyed your cute poem. I can remember houses in our neighborhood having toilet paper strung all over. In today's world toilet paper is a little bit too expensive to waste. Last year we took our granddaughter up our street and we ended up visiting with all the neighbors because it was still daylight! ; ) She's four now and going out with her mommy this year. ; )
