out of dark into light

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
the wasted years of running free
becomes a drifter in the shadows of the valley
         ..in the shadows of despair

a place built upon rage and anger
       that sees a soul descend

in the darkest hour the lord of light is consumed
the darkness, a prowler, until all goodness is surrendered
becoming a prisoner trapped inside his own purgatory
              ...the abuser of grace, arises

standing at the edge of darkness
sees the revelations of madness appears
unveiling itself to a conscious mind
 the alchemist within whispers laments
to the realisation of the apparition of fears
      ...fears that consumes the soul

across the lands darkness, sun dawns
 it`s light shines...
burning nightmare beasts
along with the temptations they bring
shed no tears
         ...penance is no crime
yesterday's sorrows are now tomorrow's shame
the will has survived and into the book all is written

freedom is this new frontier
and sees the glow within
the chains are broken
releasing imaginations delusions
...reality sees the light

flying upon an angel's wing
soaring into skies of blue
over rainbows made from El Dorado's gold

 eternity....empire in the clouds

Markus, another fine poem with a message. I particularly liked the coming into the light. Chains broken, escaping the terror of hell and on angels wings being delivered to the empire in the clouds for eternity. You took inspiration and turned it into your own impressive creation.

thanks: I find it inspirational when someone connects to my writing. As a long time Iron Maiden fan I enjoy writing on their work. The song, to me, has a few references to some of their songs, so I reflected this by mentioning some of their songs in my piece. The opening riff of the song is similar to the riff of another song of theirs `wasted years` hence why I opened the piece with the words I did, I treat contests as prompts and I don't get overly disappointed if I don't place as I just see it as a bit of fun and a challenge to myself-if I place that's an added bonus, P.S. I enjoyed you contest entry it was spot on you really understood the lyrics...good onya
