Our Turn

It is widely supposed
and loudly disclosed
that there is life beyond
after we're done and gone.

Perhaps there is, perhaps not
surely a mind-wrenching thought.
One thing is as certain as birth
we all got a turn on earth.

Let us then ever-grateful be
that we knew sun and sea.
As for the matter of a second life
give it no place for angst and strife.
Rather adopt a contrite attitude
and be graced by humble gratitude.
