Notes About The Poem

America has never been weaker or in such danger.
-------------------------------------------------------

Our Novel

You can think of this
pandemic as an novel
slowly unfolding.

We are characters
caught up in the plot - we're the
heroes and villains.

We bring our desires,
educations, biases and
social reflexes.

All the small sins and
great vanities of mankind
have a home in us.

The challenges we
face, in chapters yet turned
would scare the angels.

Will, we, the people,
psychologically flinch
in this, our great hour?

If so, expect no
Crispian Day speech of legend
to mark our passing.

As Mme de Gaulle was fond of saying, "Ah, za plot sickens!" The USA has 62 per 100,000 COVID-19 infections (compared to Germany's 11 or South Korea's 0.7) because its President insisted it was an hoax and encouraged citizens to ignore pandemic guidelines, yet 41% of Americans still insist their leader is enlightened! What a story you can tell your grandchildren! Aloha! Rico

Deep thoughts this morning my friend. All great societies in history have had a finite existence; it is a scary thought to think we may be living in the last chapter of ours. John

Yes, it seems we face a bewildering set of problems but are too divided to address them.
