Our New Friend

My siblings and I wanted a dog
How fun to take him for a jog!

But not just any dog you see
                                    We wanted a Labrador puppy!

                                     We asked our parents gleefully
                                They talked and replied thoughtfully
                                     "Care for this plant faithfully
Then come back and talk to me"

Day after day we tried our best
Cared for our plant, by their request

                                     Naturally the day had come
The plant was dead, our dream was done

                                  Seeing thus, hearts broke inside
We tried our best but the flower died

Dad came home and we told him the news
He said "Come now, a dog we'll choose"
We looked at each other all confused

We thought we'd lost, that flower passed
"No, you have won, it's fall at last!"

Off to the pound! We talked joyfully
A pet would join our family!

We've had this 'pup' nine years now
Our Labrador, a mix of Chow

Our sweet, and cuddly, joyful friend
We'll love him till the very end

Great pen Anna Marie, dogs are great friends especially labradors. This has nice rhyme and flow with good imagery too, we had a black Labrador when growing up and it was a lovely dog. Blessings,Gordon

Anna, so delightful and touching! What a great idea your parents had - to care for a flower as proof you and your siblings would care for a dog by creating a habit! Ingenious! Your poem has lovely rhyme that lyrically tells your story! Congratulations on your win! Blessings!
