Our Heritage

Ours is a hard earned legacy.
One to be handed down
to future generations
as cherished as a family heirloom.
It was paid for by our forfathers,
their blood spilled upon
miles of land, foreign and domestic,
by young and old alike,
fighting for what they believed in,
willing to die to protect it,
to be able to pass it on.
Many in this world despise us
because of this legacy.
Is it hatred or jealousy?
Who knows for sure?
I have seen the worlds without it.
They are ugly places.
All I know,
what we have is precious.
It is to be protected
at all costs.
