Our Cities Smolder

The country's crazy, out of whack somehow There's a new 'Republic' in Seattle now Young folks are calling to defund police A fury in the streets that will not cease... They scream their slogans, every day the same For 'racial justice,' -- it's an age-old game 'Cos no one really thinks that things will change Most voters find the goings-on quite strange America the Beautiful's long dead and gone Sure seems the leaders guessed completely wrong They watched as cities festered, crime increased So many murders, little kids deceased... Our cities smolder as the hurt returns The people on the bottom still get burned Iambic Pentameter Couplet-style Rhyme

The people on “the bottom” truly have been the losers lately.

As always, the 'chumbalonies' just keep getting pushed further underneath the entire ladder...

Those folks just keep sinking further underneath the ladder, as if they were in quicksand...

I could never have imagined this would happen when I was a kid. I do not understand the liberal platform of actions. Ghandi won independence from Britain with peaceful work stoppages. They should do this. If every minority and other poor folks would call for a sit-down strike of no work across this country things would change fast.

Wow. What a great solution, Tim. I think within a week, the country might come to its senses. You organize this nation-wide strike, ok? I'll support you, my friend. Thanks! Cheers, :) gw

Hello Gershon … from afar, it is so hard to understand why a country like the US has cities being destroyed by fire. To find a balance for the problems will almost require a miracle it seems - thanks Gershon - Lindsay

Maybe you're right... Then again, see my post titled "A Little Birdie Chirps in POTUS' EAR (June 20, 2020)… You never know... And America's overcome worse than this. Cheers, Gershon

Thank you for writing this poem. These are truly very sad and difficult times and unbearable to see what is happening to our country. I commend your bravery to speak and express what many of us are going through! :)

Heh, heh. On the bottom rung sit the chumbalones, as John Kass calls them / us. We watch the privileged virtue-signal---as they/we sink one rung lower. It was ever aye, I'm afraid. Cheers, Gershon

Your poems have taken a somber turn, Gershon. I share your concern if not despair at the current situation. Although I, at present, observe the USA from across ‘The Pond’, I have come to know and admire the country over 45 years of my life; and see it as the main battlefield in the war of ideologies, the outcome of which, will impact the whole world. Courage my friend! Keep up the good fight.

Interesting, 'the war of ideologies.' That it is. You're right. I've also passed the torch to a younger generation. No stomach for the fight anymore. And a fight it clearly is! Thanks, Geoffrey

Actually, now the beautiful world is becoming sick for the dissimilarity of peoples quarrelsome thought…..we need to set free our egoistic mind and have to be the sacrifice thought holder with good friendship sense among entire worlds people……
