We know he's up in heaven- Charlie Cat-
a sweeter pet than he- could never be.
My hubby-fireman, rescued him one night
from fiery flames- then took him home to me.
He showed his gratitude in many ways-
with sweet meows and gentle, loving eyes.
More like a puppy, he'd be at our side;
asleep all night- then pat my cheek to rise.
No matter where- he'd answer to our call
and run to jump into our loving arms.
A plain, gray tabby cat, for sure, was he-
with faithful mood and altruistic charms.
We picture him with wings and halo crown-
green sparkling eyes that still say I love you;
we feel his presence, often late at night,
beside us reading- as we used to do.
He passed away at twenty years of age.
We know he's up in heaven- for you see
with thankfulness, he blessed us every day;
a kinder pet than he- could never be.
