Others Teach Me Daily
About that I thought I knew something
But I was incorrect, I knew nothing at all
Clarity came in the form of a person from that country
Disguised as a pleasant person, she straightened me out
Enthusiastically helping me to sort out my preconceived notions
Fantastic conversations ensued, where I was enlightened.
Generosity of her spirit seeped through as she educated me.
Hatred and prejudice has no place in our hearts, she told me.
I agreed wholeheartedly, and resolved to be more flexible in my thinking
Jubilant feelings of hope and empowerment came to visit.
Kindness toward a variety of people came prancing forth
Love for other’s cultures, appreciation too, not mere tolerance.
Making my world wider and more inclusive.
Never again will I automatically push someone into a box.
Optimism sprang forth as I opened my thinking,
Positive thoughts flooded my soul
Quietly yet steadily I began to reach a bit further
Respecting what others can teach me about their world.
Self-fulfilment is somehow easier now.
Truth is never absolute.
Universal inclusion is possible.
Victory is about your willingness to listen and learn.
We love who and what we know.
Xenophobic ideas can be trussed into boxes and tossed into the river.
You can learn to like something about every single person.
Zeal and zest zings into my heart as I welcome new ideas and cultures.
