Only Traces In An Upsidedown World

Only Traces

Spectral traces of lost societies
Lie waste on every avenue of time...
Honour is replaced by mendacities...
Chivalry faded...lost upon the wind
Of progress...hate...and past atrocities.
Self glory strangled passions' subtle mime...
Banishing all sense of proprieties.

Flagrant misconceptions devoid of love
Contaminate each new pathway we tread.
But blame, will not remove the problems' shove
From days gone bye...when life sewed stronger thread
In tapestries that veiled like hand in glove...
A stronger purpose...built on faith and hope...
Displayed a love...forgiving...in its scope.

Somehow I feel that the less we had, the stronger of purpose we became. And in our world of relative abundance we've lost our moral compass. Love the poetry and the message - well expressed. And congratulations on your win Deb! All the best! Mark :-)

Deb, I smile for knowing you, even the tiniest bit. Your words work so well together - that sounds like faint praise but I mean it with vehemence. "when life sewed stronger thread" = this is perfection in a phrase. And - "when life sewed stronger thread In tapestries that veiled like hand in glove" = this is so rich that I happily trail off into the distance, thinking about it.

This is quite deep Deb. I love it, I think it will do well in John's contest, if you are planning on entering it. If not, well, I like it right here. :)
