Only Time Will Tell

As I walk alone Through the thickened forest path, thinking to myself. Have I done enough... in my life to please the Lord? What else can I do? I tried to do good. I tried my best to be kind, thoughtful and caring. My children, bless them. They made me a happy man. How long will I live? How long will they live? Long past when I'm gone...I hope, and pray to the Lord. And my grandchildren I am blessed to have them all. Hmm...will I have more? My dear wife, my love I want to die before her. I can't bear the thought... of losing my love. I wonder, if the Lord knows... I want to die first. I guess...only time will tell.

Charles, your rumination is common as we age. I know well! Did we do enough? Who will die first? Heavy questions! Congratulations on your placement in my contest!

It's a prayer that should be spoken. Dying first is a natural request.

We weren't meant to lose one another. I've always thought that one of the biggest blows against evolution is this: if death is a natural thing, part of the cycle of life ingrained in us for countless eons, why does it still hurt us? The answer? Death is an enemy, and is slated for oblivion - Revelation 21:4. Nice poem Charlie
