Only a Year

Only a year has passed.

A year ago, I climbed stairs with ease.
I walked through the city without fear of being stared at.
I laid down my head, expecting sleep to follow.
I combed my hair without consequence.
I breathed without pain.
I cried for petty things.

One year ago, I wasn't sick.
Nowadays, I am.
