One-Eye Jake

Their youngest boy, they call him one-eye Jake
He was as means as a black mamba snake
Cursed like a landlocked sailor
Took a job as a county jailor
Made all the money a good thief can make.

Well, I considered a "bad" thief, but then I realized stealing is always a "bad" thing, so why not a "good" thief in the sense of adept????

Ha ha ha. Who said crime doesn't pay? A jailer who curses like a sailor. Perfect. Excellent Milt!...ab

Pretty accurate picture, but it's fiction. I don't know anyone named Jake who was a jailor! LOL

Interesting last line there, Milt... I actually worked as a 'jailer' for 1.5 years while I was in grad school. Pay was great... hours -- 3rd shift. Oy. Anyway, I came to see that sometimes the only difference between the guy on the inside of the iron bars and the guy on the outside was the badge the latter wore. Thieves, both of them. We're talking 44 - 45 years ago. ~ Gershon

Interesting, gw. Deb and I taught several semesters in the Virginia State Corrections Institution. I had some of my best students ever there! But, they did have time to do their assignments, read the text, etc., etc. This has led me to believe that most criminals are pretty smart.
