One Of The Few

I’m the same as everyone else,
I seek what others seek -
that path that leads to life amidst
this world so dark and bleak.
And as I’ve sought, I’ve often read that -
few shall find the gate
that puts us on this path that’s penned
as narrow and as straight.

Thus, I can’t help but wonder –
“Will I be one of the few
who by chance finds this narrow gate
and then knows what to do?”

The odds against such seem as though
I hardly stand a chance,
when all there be to fill my sails
are winds of circumstance.
But somewhere also in the verse
there is another clue -
“Seek, you’ll find. Ask, you’ll receive.
Knock, it shall be opened unto you.”

So, it would seem that if
I ever want to walk this path,
I better take some time alone
to pray and humbly ask,
and make resolve –
“No matter what he asks of me, I’ll do!”
Then I can hold faith knowing that…
I’ll be one of the few.
