Notes About The Poem

Bite Size Poetry Contest no.141 sponsored by Line Gauthier ~ April 2026

One Last Request

He asked to see the sunset one more time
Before the vesper bells that evening chime.
She opened wide the window facing West
Then propped him up…his ultimate request;
His eyes lit up then closed, and he lay still
The fading sun withdrew behind the hill.

So touching. After witnessing the sunset - the fulfillment of his last desire, the sun of his life too set. His silent farewell and his quiet withdrawal behind the curtains arouse a tinge of pain in the heart. Short and poignant.

Perfection . Nothing more nothing less. I wondered if it was an execution. But it ended well.
