One Gray Hair

Her wrinkles were joy-flecked twinkled with facial lines brightly smile crunched. Her eye shade vague, but love sprinkled from decades of holding faith bunched. She prayed steady, her praise ready. Her giggle rendered me tickled. Her heart-ways raised me cherish-touched. Loving my Gram much, tears trickled the morning I found her death clutched. Not one gray hair lacked my despair.

I so love the way you use unique word combinations..."smile crunched"...It's like you can take two words, slap them together and I can immediately envision those words in a tryst. So cool!

So glad to see this on the winners' list. You chose same theme as I did. I love your rendition of One Grey Hair, Caycay. You took it to a personal level. I wish I'd had a grandma I looked up to this way!

I don't think you could ever lose her, or she you. I imagine she was praying for you every day until her last. The phrase joy-flecked twinkled delighted me, and the ending expresses what we have all felt when those we love well pass over. A profound cheery/sad poem.

The ending is fictional because although I loved her dearly and called her Gram, she was my husband's grandmother. I loved her before we married, lived with her for a year when we first married, then years later I lost her in our eventual divorce. I have never stopped missing her or giving thanks for the countless ways she impacted me and my journey. I learned a few years ago that she had lived until 103. I've never known anyone as constantly close to God as she was in every moment. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

The body betrays, the mirror frightens, but the inner-self stays the same age and hopefully helps you develop a sense of humor, I know laughter, plus a lack of analyzing, sure helps me. Where as I once made up my face, I laugh that I now seem to spend that time erasing it! Hugs ... CayCay

Truth to tell, all lines are about my first husband's Gram whom I loved very much, the last 4 are made up because I lost her in the divorce, but do know she lived to be 103 and she was absolutely pivotal in my spiritual journey. Love her, I did. Thanks, Paul ... CayCay

Nothing like the soft love of a grandmother. I visit mine in my mind/heart quite often, too, remember them easier than what I ate last night. Glad I took you on a sentimental journey. Sent u a soup mail. Love ... CayCay
