Once Upon a Time Growing Up

Looking back now on my adolescence so many years ago much has now past many struggles came across my path but in time the dye was cast Living in the sixties as I did the music scene affected me loving the Beatles and all Mersey so dynamic lyrically made one free My love for reading started then loving Roy of the Rovers hit the net being a Scot 'Oor Wullie' and 'The Broons' were my regular diet for fun to have met! Soccer was indeed my fab game looked every week to see a match ten shillings was my pocket money so it paid for all my Saturday catch Memories indeed were so full of these days in my exuberant youth love for the first time named Ruth such a lovely shape she blew me away Once upon a time growing up loved these days more than did hate despite difficulty trying to speak a word learned to let it all be left to fate (This is written looking back on my childhood showing things like music, reading, money, and love how they affected me these days. Being Scottish I better explain some words. 'Roy of the Rovers' was a soccer cartoon magazine. 'Oor Wullie' and 'The Broons' were Scottish characters cartoon published in a Sunday newspaper. 'Ten Shillings was worth what 50 pence/ 1 dollar is now.)

Why is it that we lose more faith and believe less, and lesser till we stop feeling hopeful as we age? Why does age make us forget how to forgive ourselves and stops me from going with the flow?

Hi Denise, You make an interesting point and one that's true for many but thankfully not all of us. Hope you're having a lovely day, it's another sunny day over here in Scotland. Blessings always, Gordon

I love poetry written from life, and I love rhyming poetry, I was born in Gorton, Gordon, but have lived in Oz for over 60 years now, I enjoy your poems I have read, and will continue to read them, mine are in the same vein, thanks for more memories.

Some wonderful memories you have shared here, Gordon. In such a fast paced and crazy world, our memories are the only things that can keep us somewhat sane. Hope you have a great week :)
