Once More

I saw you yesterday once more
sadness on an empty face
seeing though you never looked
hiding in some distant place
frozen as I slowed and passed
while memories sweetly smoldered yet
helpless in a misty fog
with all emotions turned to fear
no time left for you and me
my life beyond all lovers gifts
yours again were it should be
from then till now is just blank space
effort given up for naught
almost but now sadly lost

'Once More' is about a "Purple Rain" friendship that ended very sadly. We passed each other a few months back and this poem was written to express that experience..........Fran

I wasn't very good at composition in school but my work required me to do quite a bit of technical writing. When word processors evolved and e-mail became the accepted method of communication in business, I actually became pretty good at putting ideas on paper. When I retired 6 years ago one of the things I had hoped to do was write for pleasure. Technical things I'd learned in my work or political rants or maybe short stories. I messed with that stuff for a while but really never got very far with any of it. This past month I tried writing poetry. I found I truly enjoy doing it. The poems on these pages are my first poems.
