Once

Whoever said life’s a happy movie
must’ve seen the win after hard times.
In my movie, the main character has already lost,
the past was golden, all my good wishes already used.
Jealousy and sadness, all together, now supported only by wine.
You holding hands with someone else,
while I smile, pretending to be fine.

I could see your smile in all the photos,
my heart was strong until I saw you
proposing with a ring and daffodils.
Oh darling, I’ve done it a billion times
and have been quite successful
in getting over you in my mind.
But still couldn’t resist once I saw you again,
sweet and kind—
not to me, but a different person this time.

To manipulate, I said to my heart,
it’s all a facade.
However, that constant backlash won’t just stop,
every time you come closer so that we could talk—
cracking jokes, making me laugh
in those late-night walks.

Now I’m walking in the cold mountains
with my headphones on,
Lana’s songs all along,
while I recollect all the beautiful past
with the only person I had once dreamt to last.
