On Watching My Two Cats
I have two cats and love them very much.
As kittens, they were so much fun to see.
They’d snuggle with me too and liked my touch.
Today they rarely even come to me!
It makes me sad; on any given day
I’m lucky if one sits close by my head
when I lie down. I often watch them play
most often near the foot of our huge bed.
These days I don’t see them often play-fight.
They used to be like wrestlers in training.
They would roll and kick, and they’d even bite.
Now they’re sedate; play-fight days are waning.
I watch them curl up sweetly with each other -
the ginger cat with eyes of yellow and
the gorgeous white one, his blue-eyed brother.
They groom each other; I find them so grand!
