Notes About The Poem

On Turning Fifty

Sue screams so loudly
has she seen a little mouse –
no her first grey hair!

she’s menopausal
has hot flashes every day
saves on heating bills!

her huge birthday cake
is lit with fifty candles
fire brigade ready!

family gathers 
to celebrate her birthday
Sue’s a proud mother

her grown up children
are all happily married
grandchildren love her

Sue embraces life
her husband Jim adores her
forever in love
