On the First of January

On the first of January,
The old year begins to vanish;
Another new year breaks with glee,
Bringing hope, health, luck, and warm wish.

On the first of January,
December thirty-one is gone;
The past is just a memory
To remember come dusk or dawn.

On the first of January,
The morning sun shines and rises;
Sharing his warmth, light, and glory
With humankind of all races.

On the first of January,
Resolutions are jotted down;
They are written in diary,
Promising a life good and sound.

Let us all look up in the sky,
To thank the Father Almighty;
Let us focus our every eye
On the first of January.
