On the Death of a Pet

ON THE DEATH OF A PET

When you finally realize he’s gone,
How he pad so benignly on your awareness
Something pulls at your soul –
     A memory of other time
        Of other life
             Life so simple so undemanding
So loving
And of that consistent joy
Only a purloined whisper lingers.

Sorry for your loss. I cried for days when Murphy died (my son's chihuahua) and now I found out a very young Tiller (my son's chihuahua terrier mix) is limited due to a series of seizures. I feel the pain in this poem.

A quiet and subtle write, and a beautiful tribute to Mr. Penny, Daver. He had touched your heart, and soul as you must have touched his own. Keep well, Love, Mikki

I know exactly where your heart was when you wrote this poem. I had one to leave me four years ago and I think of him still, even though I immediately got another mutt, to not replace him, that could never happen, but to soothe my ache some, and she has done her job magnificently. I'm sorry you lost Mr. Penny.

Because humans outlive most other animal species, pet lovers commonly experience grief when their pets pass away. Your feelings are expressed rather well in this piece. Sorry to hear about Mr. Penny's passing.
