On Lord Byron

On Lord Byron

Far away from thistle and thorn
a genius and great poet was born
Lord Byron was his great name
making love with words his game

The world had him not very long
his verses danced like a song
Women swoon at his written charms
those chosen loved in his arms

He was born to many a woman bed
excesses raced in his wild head
Often crazy and without any cares
he juggled many hot love affairs

Fate lusted to grab him too soon
as he shown like the August moon
Sadness invaded his hectic life
in dying, he left his poor wife

Far away from thistle and thorn
a genius and great poet was born
Lord Byron was his great name
making love with words his game

A great one here Robert!! Lord Byron is one of my all-time favorites right up there with some other great I admire very much. I wrote one on Heinrich Heine too, which appears in my recent book and was posted in an earlier version on PS. A lot of English speakers tend to ignore many of the German poets (even when their works are translated into English). What a shame. I read wide and deep, just like you do regardless of what country a poet comes from. Like this Byron poem very much! Best! Gary

Very good write, Robert. Byron was one of the greatest British poets...a leader of the Romantic movement, who unfortunately died young. All the best my friend. #7 // paul

I quite like historical pieces that describe poets and such. I wrote a valentines day one in Chaucer several years ago that is not posted here, but I enjoyed the breif snapshot of Byron. Actually read Idylls of the King as a freshman in high school (Camelot was so romantic...lol) and just kept reading although I don't think I really did more than a cursory look at his life then. Enjoyed reading ~jan
